Savantis implements SAP Solution Manager 7.2 to support Southco S/4HANA conversion and operations

Savantis led Southco’s SAP ECC to S/4HANA conversion using SAP Solution Manager 7.2 Project, Process, Test, and Change Control Management scenarios. After Savantis converted the old SAP Solution Manager 3.1 to the latest version, 7.2 SP 13, and implemented new processes, the project team and internal CoE adopted new ALM processes for project and ongoing management, including IT Service Management.

SAP Cloud ALM

SAP Cloud ALM is an Application Lifecycle Management solution that supports cloud-based SAP applications. SAP Cloud ALM has been natively developed on the SAP Cloud Platform with Cloud Foundry and Cloud Application Programming Model (CAP) using SAP HANA as a service. ​It is a ready-to-run, cost effective ALM solution that supports new SAP cloud customers. Usage rights for SAP Cloud ALM are included with the SAP Enterprise Support for private and public cloud editions. SAP Cloud ALM delivers implementation, operation, and service scenarios that enable an out-of-the-box, native cloud central entry point to manage your SAP landscape with content-driven guided implementation and highly automated operations.

SAP Cloud ALM v. SAP Solution Manager

SAP Cloud ALM and SAP Solution Manager are both ALM solutions but the capabilities of each differ. SAP Cloud ALM provides standardized ALM processes that can be simply implemented and integrated to other cloud services and 3rd Party ALM tools via open APIs in the SAP API Business Hub. For now, this solution is a better fit for small-to-medium sized enterprises that run SAP public cloud solutions out-of-the-box, and do not require the advanced ALM functionality commonly used to administer and monitor on-prem and hosted SAP technical workloads found in large enterprise clients.

SAP Solution Manager, on the other hand, is a much more comprehensive solution that has been enhanced for more than 20 years. Customers can flexibly select which scenarios to enable to support the specific requirements of the organization, SAP applications and business processes, and IT operations.

The SAP S/4HANA On-premise and cloud deployment approach also affects your ALM toolset decision as well. The SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition allows you convert existing SAP Business Suite systems to SAP S/4HANA, and more advanced intelligent business processes can be enabled. Additionally, there are more extensibility and custom code options to retain and protect previous investments. Similarly, running SAP S/4HANA on a hyperscaler or hosting partner with a perpetual license will likely require the full functionality found in SAP Solution Manager.
